Loved it. The best Danny Boyle movie I've seen so far. Cillian Murphy is fantastic as well as Chris Evans. The photography was brilliant and on a whole I found the film quite remarkable. I even moved a little bit. Didn't mind the ending but it certainly wasn't my favorite part of the movie. Goddamn this was gripping from beginning to end.
When I saw the film at the cinema it seemed more profound. There was a sensory aspect to the play of light, the closeness of it, the emotional impact. I felt as if I was seeing images on screen that I'd never seen before. When I watched the film again a few weeks ago the experience was less intense and for the first time I understood why most people despise it so. That said, I still think it works, up to a certain point. Taken metaphorically I mean, the film pulsates with the sadness and the fury of a dying sun, venting its rage against the species that brought about its end.
amazing. danny boyle's best work. and umm, i really liked the ending so i don't know what everyone's complaining about....

A definitive "small crew in space film" in the vein of Solaris, Alien, 2001, etc. Some scientific aspects have been deemed untrue, but this was a fascinating psychological exploration as well as a decent slow-boiling thriller. Much better than the other "suicide-mission" space capers like Armageddon and Event Horizon. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, which is a shame because this is one of the better ones.
amazing film until the last 20 minutes... http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/tarantino-on-sunshine
Outstanding performance from Chris Evans. The movie itself is more to watch, less to think.
Recomendable.
Now here's a film where the star rating system falls apart. There's plenty to like here, but not enough depth or involvement in the characters to render the film as good, even before the horrendously misguided "NOW-LET'S-PUT-COLONEL-KURZ-IN-SPACE-YEAH" finale. YEt I would certainly call the film impressive and have even found myself recommending it to people. Danny Boyle is one frustrating director to watch.
It is packed with good ideas, I would've rate it 4 stars but third act transition from sci-fi genre to horror genre is somewhat awkward and incomprehensible because they tried to do too much at once that wasn't even necessary! Anyway, still one of the best SciFi "Disaster Dooms Day" movie out there! Stunning visuals, intelligent dialogue, psychological intense with a believable characters!
The first 2/3rds of this movie are what sci-fi should be - quietly intelligent and visually stunning. Unfortunately, the 3rd act turns the movie into Jason X.
visually stunning, emotionally charged soundtrack, only the ending lets it down
Despite the often-bitched-about third act, I really love this film and I take something new from it each time I watch it.
Amazing and under-rated film completely. Apart from mind-blowing cinematography and CGI, I finallt found an impressive performance in Chris Evans and got to watch more and more of Cillian Murphy. The twist was fantastic, as well as the metaphors of atheism and nature vs. science. Fantastic and under-appreciated.
very underrated this one. something in the back of my mind says to watch this again.
Two villains? But didn't the sun drive him to madness? Either way, this is probably one of my favorite Boyle flicks. The thought of becoming 'nothing' by being enveloped by everything is entirely fascinating.
