Well, this film already surpasses the live-action American film with the fact that they actually follow most of the game's story and characters correctly (and does some decently creative things with them as well). The problems, however, are the offbeat quirky Japanese humour that pops out of nowhere, the fact that it's a bit too short and the use of obscure product placement twice (here's a hint: Mario-themed rice).
