Young teen Steph (Stephannie Richardson) and her three pals find themselves hopelessly lost deep in the wilderness when their guide — Steph’s older brother, Jonah (Guy Yarkoni) — perishes while leading them on a backcountry canoe trip. Now the four girls must survive the perils of the wild and find their way back, even as Steph refuses to abandon her brother’s body. Sascha Drews, Ezra Krybus and Matthew Miller direct this thriller.
There are rough moments of scripted dramatics, and often claustrophobic photography, but the work's life and success is reliant upon the reality of teenage girls overcoming nature's real physical conflicts: overcoming rapids, clawing a natural grave and trudging a hill with an deceased adult body. Well casted non-professionals are best when left to these real hurdles, rather than the moments of scripted intention.
