Such a heart-warming feel good movie. I would have enjoyed taking a glimpse at actual concert footage but it's also nice to see the film focus on the lovely characters and their emotional journeys instead. Ang Lee gathers a spirited cast and manages to tell a story about friendship, independence, vitality and the power of music in beautiful images. A little kitschy here and there but still lots of fun to watch.
A frustratingly weak effort - what's the main point of Ang Lee's film ? Surely, it couldn't be a kaleidoscope of hippie life and liberalism in the 60s, they are simply portrayed as grass hoppers who get naked and wander like some Down's Syndrome 18 year-olds.
The only thing that's really lacking in this film -- which is really frustrating coming from such a meticulous director as Ang Lee -- is the lack of emotionality from the Elliot character. It felt like his homosexuality was an unexplored plotline in an otherwise fantastic story about the thin line between poverty and just making due, self-discovery, and cultural discovery. Beautifully shot and well-acted.
Certainly one of my favourite films. As well as my favourite from Ang Lee. I really enjoyed everything to this film and the characters were all well developed. The acid trip scene with Love was beautiful. 5 stars.
Hat mir sehr gut gefallen, insbesondere Liev Schreiber (Manchurian Candidate) als Vilma. Gute Betrachtungsweise dieses historischen Ereignisses. Einzig die Kamera fand ich teilweise etwas uninspiriert.
A good, if sometimes slow (both in a good way and not) retelling of Woodstock from one of the key components of the festival. I just wish there was more about the actual music, but I can understand that financially that would be very very difficult. Oh, and it features one of the best drug trips that I've ever seen in a film.
The script is kanda awful, but the cast is fun to watch. Stereotypes all over the place here, but no one was miscast, at least.
Perfectly watchable and enjoyable though perhaps a liitle to light compared to Lee's previous works. I'll admit to not being very knowledgable when it comes to music and I came away wanting more in the way of insight into the culture and views of the times. Still a great cast, with a batch of memorable characters. Fine but could have been better.
Starts off slow, was well done in the middle and then I have no idea what happened at the end... random ending a bit, yes. But there's a few good laughs. Mostly one man's (Elliot's) journey/life-story during Woodstock, not so much about the festival really. I love the character Billy! Also, Emile Hirsch's character was great too! Totally loved the hippies and some of their far-out style!
