My new favourite Hong Sang-Soo film is a very brilliant film. with a smart narrative that works on so many levels and so many semiotic mirrors that this film is very brilliant. I want to say more but I do not want to spoil the incredible narrative. Ok, somewhere in the film there is a meta-film. And mirrors. That is as far as I am willing to go.
Aside from the immense success in its narrative, Tale of Cinema also features Hong Sang Soo departing from his usual static style to move his camera and use the zoom dial. What does this mean? I will get back to you after you see the film. Honestly, there is too much to spoil here. Let us put this way. Tale of Cinema is also most definitely a Hong Sang-Soo film: awkward sex, awkward drinking, awkward conversations, pleasing cinematography, characters who work in films, a smart concept and good execution. Therefore, Tale of Cinema is a good film.
