It’s the second Monday in September, a day Leonard Helperman, your average fourth grader, has lived in fear of because his mom, Mrs. Helperman, is the fourth-grade teacher! Oh the teasing, the torments, the taunts of “teacher’s pet” that await this poor kid who just wants to be like everybody else.
Meanwhile, Spot, Leonard’s secretly abnormally intelligent dog, is tired of staying in the house all day. Suddenly, he puts down his paw and declares, “I do not wish to be a dog!” The spunky pup throws on Leonard’s clothes, rises up on his hind legs, and becomes Scott, the newest, coolest fourth grader. Everyone is diggin’ the new kid, but Leonard is suspicious. And then it hits him – aaahhhhh! The new kid is his dog! –Disney
Probably the weirdest Disney film in recent history with a Goddamn hilarious plot, heavily underrated songs and the absolute best animation and design ever put into one of their films, although after a while, the constant Disney referencing gets a little bit overdone, like the filmmakers think that they can't make a TV-show based movie without adding in at least 20 cameos from Pinocchio.
Very forgotten animated film. Idea is cute, short and sweet, and overall pretty enjoyable.
The synopsis is shite. That's not the plot of the film, that's the premise of the show that it's based on.
Simply put, an extended version of the television show. The songs are enjoyable, but the story starts to wear down in the third act. Great voice-work by Nathan Lane in the title role, though.
