The Icelandic composer Jón Leifs, who has a promising future, falls in love with a jewish girl. His quest for success becomes a quest for survival as his love for music has to vie with his love for his wife and two daughters. Hilmar Oddsson, born in Reykjavík in 1957, studied film directing in Munich. One of his earliest films, IN THE SHADOW OF SCARTARIS, dealt with the mysteries of Snæfellsjökull glacier, the setting for Jules Verne’s classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth. His first feature-length film, THE BEAST, a psychological thriller dealing with the fate of two young people in a remote and bleak landscape, was well received by the public and critics. Oddsson not only directed the film, but also wrote the screenplay and composed parts of the musical score.
