This film has been recommended to me on several occasions, and I have to say, I am not disappointed.

The general message of the film exposes satirical truths about things we already know, but are not always aware of, such as the spinning industry and the various subtle campaigns to curb our perception of morally bad things. What makes the film work is the connection with family, which also provides a counter balance to the possibly ‘bad’ message of endorsing cigarettes and the other products which the ‘M.O.B.’ squad lobby. However, what I feel it shows most poignantly, is the reality of humanity, the inherent weakness to vice and temptation, regardless of the known and supposed consequences to one’s personal life and general health. Take for example the foreseeable outcome of the protagonist’s sexual relationship with the reporter, even after being warned by his colleagues and the niggling thoughts of regret, he still continued to fornicate in the pursuit of sexual and emotional gratification – with no strings attached- or so he assumed (and we all know one should never assume). The element which facilitates the coherence of the film is the subtle, yet prevalent use of satire throughout, offset by the stop-camera monologues. There were also some beautiful shots here and there, creating a variety of intimate moods.

Overall, I enjoyed the film. The only criticism I have is its pursuit of some serious note, although in existence, it lacked the gravitas it could have had. Though I understand that was not the purpose of it, it could have been…for lack of a better word…better.
