How can you say this and have a likeness of Stanley Kubrick as your profile picture? Have you ever seen Barry Lyndon? That film is much better and much more underrated than The Abyss.
ok the special effects are really cool and I don't even want to imagine what an effort it was to shoot this thing at that time in this conditions. the visual effects are almost visionary, so you can see past the fact that there some loopholes in the 2nd half (diving in 3000 feet in a tshirt!), the music is horrible (I want synthies!) and it's also quiete cheezy in the end, not to mention the three drama moments.
Totalmente recomendada.
This is the most underrated movie ever made! It is a beautiful looking film with a fantastic romance story and terrifying villain played by Michael Biehn.

Barry Lyndon was nominated for Best Picture, which makes it, as far as I'm concerned, not underrated.
I personally prefer the theatrical cut. They were right to get rid of that crazy tidal wave climax. A great movie either way, though.
So there's a downed submarine, a warhead, a crazy military man. Oh, and there are aliens. Would have liked Cameron to have picked just one. Still, great performances by Harris and Mary Elizabeth, especially at the end.
Avatar should thanks to this movie, even if you watch this movie today, the visual effect is quiet out-of-date. Well, d'uh!
I dislike Cameron and could really care less about his films, but The Abyss is the exception. The cast is a big reason why, well, Ed Harris is the big reason why. I never dismiss Cameron technical talents, but he can't direct actors worth shit, Harris was able to overcome Cameron and hold this film together.
I remember watching this film first time, and as a child I was really impressed. Most of the scenes are still in my memory.
