if you ask me, the title gets it the wrong way around - intentionally, of course ;)
Incredibly well shot, fantastic pacing, terrific acting and a totally gorgeous film overall, ever member of the crew and the cast did a good job. No wonder it flopped at the box office, it's way too much for the average Brad Pitt fan, it's way too much for a revisionist western, it's no less than a poetic drama influenced by Malick's best work. I'm sure the four hour cut offers a PRICELESS experience.
Quite simply a masterpiece, and by far one of my favourite films. I hope the director has more in store for us.
This is honestly one of the saddest films I've ever seen. Absolutely loved it. Beautifully acted and shot.
The first time I put this on, I was distracted, got bored of the film, and turned it off. But later that year I actually sat down and paid attention and it was pretty worth it. Great adaptation. However, I would NOT watch it more than once. Once was enough. Once was satisfying.
Because of this movies title you will, from the first scene and introduction of the coward, look at Robert Ford as nothing but a lowlife coward. But with that in mind, the experience of watching the actual story unfold is something amazing that simply cannot be explained with words. You just have to watch to it, and I urge you all to do so.
Perhaps a little too reliant on the voice narration and a bit more intelligent than it is passionate this is nevertheless a stunning film I enjoyed, would watch again and thought sublime in it’s elements. A somewhat stronger point of view would have made me love it more but even so it’s a great film and one worth seeing. Roger Deakins work on this was remeniscent of Kundun. Beautiful.
Una pena que la gente no haya comprendido este film, a mi me pareció excelente.
overlong, but certainly not by much. Roger Deakins gives a cinematography master class, Pitt and Affleck are always convincing, possibly because the film is so slow it never gives them an opportunity to overact. supporting cast is deep and top notch. the voiceover tends to get a little excessive in the final hour.
meditative, slow, and beautiful, which is a combination I can always agree with. What blows my mind is something more about American film critics and audiences rather than the film itself: how does this film go under the radar but average at best films like True Grit get praised out of the ass? Oh, and some of the most impressive cinematography of the 21st century thus far.
One of the most vastly underrated films of the decade. It features beautiful cinematography from Roger Deakins, terrific performances from Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell and Jeremy Renner, a moving orchestral score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Everything you want in a Western is in this film. Sorry Clint, Unforgiven is a great film in the Western genre but this takes the top spot.
If there is any justice in the world, this will come to be regarded as one of the most underrated masterpieces of the 2000's. I just love it to bits.
Some of the most beautiful cinematography I have ever seen. Train robbery scene is unbelievable.
A film of harrowing beauty that inspires such raw emotion! One of the best of the decade!
