The Bad Sister

Marianne Madison is the spoilt daughter of a wealthy merchant, who flirts between two suitors, Dick Lindley and Wade Trumbull, and is bored with small- town life. When Valentine Corliss from the city arrives in town she quickly falls for him and he uses her to forge her father’s name to endorse him in the eyes of the towns businessmen whom he swindles. He persuades Marianne to elope with him, but he runs off with the money and abandons her at a motel. Meanwhile, her sister Laura confesses her love to Dick Lindley, and by the time Marianne returns home, he and Laura are in a relationship. She then only has Wade to fall back on. —BFI
