This movie blew me away. After watching this I could not believe how many movies I've seen that have structured themselves after this one. Morricone's score is amazing, it tells a story on its own.
A fascinating film by a fascinating man. He took his political convictions and based them in lyrical images, creating poetry...he put a face to a cause and he did not skirt problematic topics. Battle of Algiers is strong as steel: its influence continues to set the standard for all filmmakers.
Essential viewing experience for all. Key film of the sixties reflecting not just the political struggle in Algeria but the political consciousness of a generation. Film connects on so many levels and is still unfortanately totally relevant today. Pontecorvo's docu-style delivery here transports the viewer directly into the events unfolding. It reallly doesn't get much better. The music score is perfection.
I was really disappointed w this. The narrative was poor and the camera work was a combination of bad and really good at times. Frustrating because it's a cool story.
a dark strange movie created with an interesting new cinematic vision with that documentary style. a strong movie that builds itself through an innovative , daring and ambitious scrypt and really strong realistic directing though its lot weakness and draw backs in the technical aspects especially the editing........overall , a very special distinct cinematic experience that is it for sure a must see one.
Saw this a few years back with a live score by the Asian Dub Foundation. One of my top cinema experiences of all time!
One of the Greatest films ever made ,it still has tthe power to shock 40 years after its making
It's astonishing to me that I'd never seen this before today---horrifying and wonderful.
A masterpiece of realism, this movie depicts everything as it was in the Algiers revolution. The protests scenes are astonishing... So many times the audience forgets hes not watching a documentary.
