Loved it! Really interesting the way the birds function in the narrative, and I love the use of deep focus in the film.

The art of creating things without the digital era. Every time I see Hitchcock's movies I get a free cinema lesson. There is a smoldering violence and rage that assault us in every way. It does not scare us, however we feel impatient by what's happening in and - specially - out of field. A really powerful acting by Jessica Tandy who plays the jealous mother.

Hitchcock's most purely terrifying film, creating an evocative atmosphere of both disturbing ambiguity and concrete horror. The sound design alone is masterful, and this is the master at the height of his powers in terms of suspense and filmmaking craft. One of the greatest films ever made.

I tend to rank Hitchcock in tiers, and although I don't place The Birds in my top tier, it ranks high in the next one. It's an outstanding film.

What can you say about this one that hasn't been said already? Despite everything, it's still my favourite Hitchcock work.

Despite its great directing and its nice cinematography, I did not like this movie so much (although I'm very fond of Hitchcock). The first half is pretty boring, the characters are stupid and annoying, the acting is quite bad and the so-called symbols don't feel very subtle.

Generally effective but with its mechanical bones more exposed than usual, the film is little more than a concentric series of set-piece frenzies with often pointless or underexplored exposition padding out the narrative between avian attacks. Of course, there is much to enjoy along the way and the sense of location is well realised, but its all a very narrow trajectory.
