I hear that "The Black Cauldron"'s unedited version is a much better movie, and seeing the final film, I would probably be more hands down for that version than what Disney is presenting. It's certainly a very interestingly put together movie in regards to the animation and design work, but it doesn't really have much aside from that to leave much of an impact, at least in my taste. Jump Gurgi! Jump!
Probably befittingly forgotten Disney feature offers an interesting blend of old-fashioned and innovative animation techniques, making for some impressive visuals, but the story is an awkward mess of fantasy cliches, packed with far too many annoying comic relief characters. Only possibly worth watching for curiosity sake, though most of the disturbing, controversial elements of its reputation have been edited out.
