In this postapocalyptic saga that takes a page from Mad Max and Rollerblade, Rutger Hauer plays a former star of “jugging” — a futuristic type of rugby — who’s preparing a crew of bush-leaguers for a championship match against his ex-team. This fight for victory is also a quest for revenge. Among the competitors are Vincent D’Onofrio, Delroy Lindo and Joan Chen as Hauer’s single-minded female apprentice.
David Webb Peoples (born c. 1940) is an American screenwriter.
Peoples was born in Middletown, Connecticut, the son of Ruth and Joe Webb Peoples, a geologist. He studied English at the University of California, Berkeley. He first entered the industry as a film editor, and started writing screenplays during this time, but his writing career began when he was hired as co-writer on the cult classic Blade Runner after director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Hampton Fancher separated over creative differences. Following that film’s critical success, Peoples was hired by studios to work on films including Ladyhawke, Leviathan, and an unproduced attempt at adapting the Sgt Rock comic series for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

One of the most imaginative post-apocalyptic societies I've ever seen, propelled by characters that I found to be much more intresting than those in The Road Warrior. David Webb Peoples needs to do more sci-fi.
