Well said. I far prefer this film when it's sealed up in its DVD box, unopened and waiting for a refund on the grounds that it's garbage.
"The Brood was my version of Kramer Vs. Kramer. I was really trying to get to the reality, with a capital R, which is why I have disdain for Kramer. I think it's false, fake, candy... [The Brood is] as close to literal autobiography as I've ever come. I hope I don't come that close again." There's a potent rawness to Cronenberg's personal catharsis and Eggar's visceral performance (shot in just 3 days!) is scalding.
Pretty cool movie with that unmistakable Cronenberg vintage feel.. The script is a bit light but contains some cool ideas. The best thing in it is Howard Shores cracking score which amps up the horror to eleven.
Cenas repugnantes, horror e feiúra, mas com elegância. Coisa que só Cronenberg domina.
This one'e a creepy one. O argumento é super original - ok, tirando a parte de que a malignidade vem das experiências maradas de um cientista (neste caso, psicoterapeuta) maluco - e os efeitos especiais não estão nada maus, para a altura. Algum gore, tb, o que é sempre positivo.
Mmmm fetus lickin'...Anyway, this was boring to me. Could totally do with out all of those therapy sessions. Such bad acting. Loved those kids though, I wish I could have seen more murder scenes. Creepers...
Cronenberg truly begins to grow as a filmmaker, unlike his previous films the bodily horrors aren't viruses that simply need to be contained but manifestations of mankind's inherit darkness that are always potential threats. Really with it's metaphysical implications it's the closest Cronenberg's come to a supernatural horror film.
I thought it was crap, but quite good with the sound off and even better when not in the room to see it.
What is it about deformed children/little people in red hoods that freak me the fuck out?
Messes around with traditional notions of the nuclear family under the guise of a pretty formulaic horror story. Still, it's a pretty good horror movie with enough interesting weirdness to keep things going along the way and an ending that tests out some of the body horror aesthetic that would be the focus of Cronenberg's next few films.
saw this early in college as i completed my vhs rip collection of cronenberg. i remember it kind of loosely and should watch it again. the ending was over the top, like other "special effect" involved early movies by this director... but the opening and set up was intriguing and uncomfortable in the cronenberg way... i assume more blur-ays of this authors work are on our way but, will they get to these smaller films?
the characters allow your mind 2 change because they never radically reveal everything u need 2 know about them and the results are frightening and fantastic!
Cronenberg delivers his dwarfs of rage with his usually intelligent, fascinating and disgusting pseudo-metafisic plot and atmosphere. this is with no doubt the best of his early works.
Sooo creepy! I was afraid of small children for the better part of a year after watching this.
