The storyline was good but I think the best part of this movie was the visuals. I love the scientific steampunk look that the whole movie had.
Lembra-me muito "Labirinto do Fauno". Ron Perlman e Judith Vittet estão ótimos. Adorei! Mais um para minha lista de preferidos :)
JEAN-PIERRE JEUNET's work always is vividly rich with beauty. In his movie The City of Lost Children, he explores the soul, dreams, and cultish government. The imaginative surrealism in the movie is extremely tasteful and very easily competes with modern films both visually and artistically.
Oh boy! We're off to the races with this amazing film. Again a film that would ruin it to tell too much. It is visually arresting and conceptually unique. It is dark with moments of comedy that keep you riveted to your seat. The ideas abound in this film, exploding on the screen with such panache it takes your breath away. If you enjoy, fine cinematography and art direction, don't wait, I love this film. See it!
I was strangely moved by this film in a way I hadn't expected to be, I highly suggest it.
The two central characters aren't strong enough to carry all the flights of fancy that this film contains. And every moment has an overtly ludicrous set-up. Yet there are things to be enjoyed; it is a visual treat from a director whose head is full of so many ideas. There is one wonderfully absurd shot involving a pelican.
I wanted to cut this film up into small bite sized bits and eat them for months. Every frame is sumptuously detailed with breathtaking visuals. This was my introduction to Ron Perlman having not seen Beauty and the Beast. Judith Vittet turns in one of the best child performances I've ever seen.
Judith Vittet was amazing in this, what ever happened to her? One the most scarily mature performances by a 9 year old I've ever seen. This is one of the most original films of its decade. Nothing even comes close to its inventiveness and creativity. Truly a must-see.
