Romanian filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor Mircea Daneliuc entered his country’s film industry with a role in Cursa/The Long Drive (1975). Before graduating from Bucharest’s Institute of Theater and Film Art in 1972, Daneliuc had earned a degree in French philology at Bucharest University and spent a year as a teacher. Daneliuc served as an assistant director on two films by Mircea Dragan. In the late ’70s, Daneliuc left the film industry to become a stage director; he would only sporadically return to films through the ’80s and ’90s. —allmovieguide
Ever since I saw this in the early '80s, I've been wondering how it got past the censors. For it is one of the most acerbic satires ever made in and about a 'communist' country. Daneliuc had already proved himself a master of the subversively ridiculous with his 'Proba de microfon', but that, while still one of the finest Romanian movies, almost pales in comparison.
