Woody Allen makes us laugh for decades and continues to do it with his increadibles and originals screenplays. ‘The Curse of the Jade Scorpion’ is an example. Staring as investigator C.W Briggs, Allen tries to resolve crimes that he committed as he was hypnotized by magician Volton. He robbes houses that use security sistems designed by him, but he remembers nothing in the next day. Briggs also starts to fall in love for Betty Ann (Helen Hunt) who is romantically involved with Briggs’ boss. Fans of Allen certainly will love this film for its comic way of treating the action and the relations between the characters. Allen continues surprise us with its simple style of directing and he doesn’t request special effects or a sofisticated cinematography which makes Allen remarkable. Who doesn’t remember the most famous word of this film? It’s not a ‘must-see’film of Woody Allen, but it’s pretty good.

This is the bottom of the barrel as far as Woody Allen movies go. Given how many movies Allen has churned out over the years, he’s going to squeeze out a turd every now and then, and he seems to do it more and more often, but CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION has literally nothing to offer. Its worst crime is that it’s not funny, but the story is also lame and not compelling in the slightest, and the actors sleepwalk through their performances, not unlike Allen’s character in the movie. It just feels phoned in on every level and isn’t worth anyone’s time.
