Ágúst Guðmundsson

Director Ágúst Gudmundsson was born in Reykjavik, where he went on to study Icelandic and French. He trained as an actor at the National Drama School and and also attended the National Film School in London. He worked in Iceland in television and directed and produced his first feature film with is company Isfilm in 1980: “Land and Sons” put Iceland as a film nation on the map. His second film “Outlaw – The Saga of Gisli” was a big international hit, and the political satire “Golden Sands” (1984) won the Lübeck Film Lense in 1985. For “The Dance” (1998) he was named Best Director at Moscow. Apart from scriptwriting and directing feature films, he has also realised a number of television projects which were also broadcast abroad, including, with ZDF, the six-part Christmas series “Nonni and Manni”. —Lübeck Nordic Film Days
