When he makes a film, he doesn't try and conform it into a style.
It bums me out that their mother couldn't face them in the end. And the personal change the three brothers make is very impulsive, happens very quickly. I guess that's true with every Wes Anderson film. Shit just keeps happening until something breaks. This one doesn't hide it as much.
Jack: "I wonder if the three of us would've been friends in real life. Not as brothers, but as people."
Whereas The Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic grappled with the idea of reconciliation with the father, here the failures of the parents are transcended by the bond of siblings. Anderson abandons the idea that the parents will turn around, finding instead that they are an obstacle that needs to be cleared. A deeply sad and moving film, and perhaps his best.
Okay, just watched this for a second time and enjoyed it a lot more than the first.
There was a certain point, most likely upon its initial release, that this film left an awful taste in my mouth. However, after only recently viewing it, having matured from boyhood, I see now my brothers and I are there and this film is amongst my favorites of Anderson's.

I enjoyed this quasi-spiritual journey of three brothers in India. Even though they all collate on the back of their father's death it's not about that. Just like any film by Wes Anderson, this one moves along at its own pace. Humor, finding yourself and finding what's definitely not yourself defines this film, apart from the luscious scenery, great soundtrack.
I'm not even sure what to make of this one, but it feels like something beautiful happened.
I enjoy all of Andersons films, he is my favorite director. I feel as though he re-started his style with this movie. It feels, to me, as if it's his rushmore. It seemed like everything was controlled by fox searchlight and at first I assumed the rushed plot and cinematography was because of fox. Later I realized that most of the movie is themed for the train, the sound, the direction, the acting.
haha Bill Murray is in all but one of Anderson's films, so even with him this is Anderson as usual. Which is always awesome.
Amo la rissa nel vagone letto. Molto più terapeutica delle complicate relazioni che si creano invece tra sorelle....
