Synopsis

Desperate and unfortunate, lazy and hesitant, David, a 25-year-old guy, has failed as a student and lost the scholarship which supported him in the capital city. To get it back, he must pass an exam that will take place in a year’s time. In order to let time go by, sit for the exam and finally get his independence back, David has come to live at La Pedrera, a small beach town where his father will abandon him after assigning the mission of building his own house during the winter. This is the story of the construction of this house as well as David’s tragicomic fight to survive in a new world, a place where there are nearly as many dogs as men, where there are almost no women, where nobody wants to work and things are done out of friendship more than anything else.

Tranquilly paced film from Uruguay concerning a young man forced by his father to give up his slovenly unmotivated ways and build himself a house before he'll be allowed to return to university. The days pass, the seasons pass and the way of life potrayed in the small villiage is anything but exciting. The people potrayed live a life of waiting and we the audience wind up waiting without relief in the end as well.
