I agree but let's not forget the scenes preceding and following Weronika's death: the concert and and her funeral/burial.
Back in the 90's this movie meant a lot to me for reasons I can't understand today. I watched it yesterday and found it both quite boring and prententious. Funny how time changes everything...
at first it didn't make sense at all,but then i''m mesmerized by the performance of Irene Jacob and the beautiful cinematography, and in the end i got my own interpretation of the subtle ending. First experience with Kieslowski's work and its priceless
A beautiful and mysterious exploration of life and death. I can definitely sense how this film influenced Jean-Pierre Jeunet in Amelie. The core themes aren't similar, but the character of Veronique and the lush cinematography are.
Beautiful, meaningless, and safe. SATANTANGO makes this look like an amateur's dog-eared homework assignment. Grade: D-.
The death of Weronika is one of the most fascinating and magical moment in this film and in the history of cinema.. GOD I LOVE KIESLOWSKI!!!!!
I nearly forgot how beautiful this film was.. Thanks to a friend... Preisner's composition and Kieslowski's very classy and subtle direction and a very unique story is equal to a Classic art film..
Cinema can, more so than any other medium, penetrate the realm of dreams, and no film better exhibit this potential than Double Life. I have viewed it a dozen times, and every time I'm overwhelmed by its radiant mystery and sublime melancholy. It is beauty, and it is magic.
"Elle est retrouvée! — Quoi? — L' éternité. C' est la mer mêlée Au soleil." Rimbaud
This is a film that enhances the potential of cinema. Kieślowski invokes our power of intuition by showing rather than telling, he makes us feel the events rather than analyze them.
That's what phenomenon of Kieślowski is about - he is both poet and philosopher. There is a mystery in his movies, which will never be solved.
I love Krzysztof Kieślowski I love the life of another form. I love that "Other Woman "in My Life. The double personality make my life become difficult, just like Veronique. I believe that fate, even fantasy the other half of the same to me if really exist, she will be hate myself. Sometimes I want to be anybody but myself. I love myself to be still.
Often times, when a film presents itself as mysterious we react by becoming analytical, driven to solve that mystery. The beauty of this film is that it ultimately doesn't let us do that. Based on its premise, you would think of it as more fantastic prose than visual poetry. As it turns out, it's both and for that I think that this surprising, contemplative and lovely film is one of my absolute favorites.
Hauntingly beautiful and incredibly interesting. Also very bizarre. Ultimately, though, it didn't do too much for me. Irene Jacob is amazing here.
My first film by Kieślowski and I have to admit I was totally blown away by this gorgeous masterpiece.
