The Edge

François, a newly qualified doctor, leaves Paris to live in Beauval, a new town where the brand new houses are all lined up in boring rows in Beauval’s Résidence Les Hauteurs. François soon becomes a target of a gang of teenagers, led by Cédric and Matthieu, who counter their boredom with dangerous games. Challenges, provocation, seduction, anything will do to break the routine monotony… until the body of Agnès, 12, run over by a reckless driver, is found on the roadside. Cédric and Matthieu, to suppress their share of responsibility, embark on a hunt for the guilty party, tightening the net around François who they consider a suspect… The apparent tranquillity of the little town soon gives way to an oppressive atmosphere of suspicion and manipulation. –Locarno Film Festival
