Like other stories directed by Rodriguez: had everything to fail. But it didn’t.
First of all, we can’t forget we are watching entertainment. Robert Rodriguez has a special quality that is not to be pretensions, and the things he (always) does are the things he really likes. It’s not supposed to be a hard award winning movie, it’s supposed to be entertainment and for this purpose he knows he’s capable of doing great and fantastic things. Despite that fact, The Faculty is so good from the plot for itself, with a lot of huge and unexpected twists, till the great cast with great actors like Elijah Wood and Jon Stewart (yeah, daily show Jon Stewart).
A weak point is perhaps the aliens’ figure which is very visceral and should be more mysterious, in the end when we see the monster in his all momentum it feels a little out of the record because the “thing” is so awkwardly big and haggish. But it is understandable why the things has to be very visual.
Well…in the end there is an epilogue! You know that kind of “dialectic law” who says a history does not need an epilogue because people should be suggested by the final images. Robert Rodriguez does not care!
I really enjoy the film! Moreover because I’m Portuguese and there is a reference to my country so….
