Great to see Leth and von Trier at work, also weird to see von Trier and how he treats Leth pre-"Antichrist" breakdown. The second obstruction was my favorite, while the last really caught me off guard.
What an interesting film. It went much deeper than I had originally expected it to go.
Beautifully done with some really fantastically made shorts, the best being the 2nd one in my opinion.
I wish I could see the full view of the obstructions. Each had it's own flavor and fascination that I simply wished they made the film long enough to show each film.
What a delightful movie. Even when they're clearly faking it, it is funny and compelling. On top of it, the five shorts are really fucking great, specially the Brussells one!
I thought it was fantastic. It is a visual representation of what it means to be an Auteur. A test of a true artist. I'm actually unfamiliar with the films of both directors, but I plan on correcting this mistake soon. A very fun and intriguing movie.
The Five Obstructions (2003) De Fem benspænd DIR Jørgen Leth, Lars von Trier SCR Lars von Trier, Jørgen Leth, Asger Leth, Sophie Destin 90 Min "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." – Anaïs Nin
Jorgen Leth cannot be contained by rules and structure in this doc as Von Trier quickly finds out. "The Perfect Human: Cuba" is my favorite stylistically and in structure.
All kinds of fun. Its nice to see that Von Trier is as sadistic with his mentors as he is with his audience.
