What?!? I didn't get one!
Aparently if you rate this film 5 or more stars, the mubi nazis send you a warning over email.
Scumbag Ryan Gosling is kinda funny. The Fly asks one of the deep questions in science-fiction: what does it mean to be human? I think there's an answer buried somewhere within this film, and while I didn't love it, there's definitely something to chew on here.
Bought this on blu ray having not seen it for about ten-fifteen years. It really surpised me how well it holds up both in terms of storytelling, pacing and the fact that it is still a topical film regarding technology and humanity. The love story between David and Goldblum also works like a charm making this Cronenbergs most romantic and haunting movie to date.
A prophetic vision of the postmodern psyche. As the borders between us and them (inside and outside) disintegrate and rebuild, mutation of the body and soul is unavoidable. This portrait of humanity is a shockingly believable prediction of the apocalypse wherein man, machine and nature can no longer coexist and try futilely to destroy one another. Any ensuing tragedy is only a reminder of the tragedy that exists now.

One of the very few horror films in which I've really cared for its characters, and then I realized how striking this was for me as a tragic romance rather than a social commentary on something, which is the opposite of what I've felt in most Cronenberg films so far.
It started off for me like a James Whale movie; a sci-fi horror about the dangers of science with a lot of black humor. But by the end it was like Kafka's metamorphosis; a film visceral and psychological; a nightmare from which there is no awakening. A thoroughly human tragedy, I cared so much about these characters. This is real horror. It hits you where it hurts; our very humanity.
I forgot how amazing this film was. If I had to choose between 'The Thing' and 'The Fly', 'The Fly' would win every time. Possibly the greatest last 15 minutes in a film ever.
The special effects were entertaining to say the least, and Goldblum was fantastic! I was pretty blazed when I saw it and I wasn't disappointed.
Cronenberg creates a unique human drama out of a horror and the end result is an emotionally devastating and terrifying film. A real landmark for 80s horror, and for special effects. I love this a lot more than on my first viewing several years ago.
The more Cronenberg I watch the more impressed I get. Who would have thought that this film is as emotional as it is.
Only Cronenberg could have done such a creepy and amazing remake of the 1958 classic.
The greatest love story of all time. A mix of Horror,Sci-Fi, Comedy and... Thank you for this David!
I thought this was a very successful update of the classic movie. One of the few times I can actually say I enjoyed watching Jeff Goldblum.
Cronenberg is just so, so good (and by the way, so is Goldblum). The best film about the tragic degredation of the body via disease I've ever seen.
