Synopsis
In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. Modern-day, Alaska, where-mysteriously since the 1960s-a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented. The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. A great cast and a solid X-FILES-ish concept gives way to one dumb piece of crap. The decision to integrate fake archival footage with a "dramatization" is unforgivable, none of the key scenes have any tension as they cut back and forth between "fiction" and "reality" in a manner that has no rhyme or reason.

The concept had potential, but the treatment is a muddled mess. A handful of effective scenes, but it takes itself way too seriously and does a shoddy job of trying to pull a "based on true events" vibe. Milla Jovavich is surprisingly solid in the lead, but as her "true life" counterpart, Charlotte Milchard nearly single-handedly sinks the film. This one could have been fun, a disappointment.

Un "correcto" hibrido de terror y ciencia ficción. La anecdota no resulta muy original (un supuesto caso "veridico" de abducción extraterrestre), sin embargo, el merito de esta cinta reside en que algunas de sus escenas pueden resultar bastante perturbadoras. Aun asi, uno espera que en cualquier momento aparezca una metralleta en las manos de Milla Jovovich y esta comience a matar zombies a diestra y siniestra.
