She's sofia coppola. Francis coppola's daughter
I enjoyed this ending equally with the previous two chapters of the overall Coreleone story, and it is not all that much of a rehashing as some claim it to be (though I do notice Garcia, at the beginning at least, trying a bit too hard to emulate James Caan, though maybe it was necessary), but I have to admit that I think they should've gave Duvall the money he wanted so we could see Tom Hagen once more.
It lacks the epic scope of its predecessors, and thus it feels like more of a rehash than a sequel. I liked some of the scenes between Kay and Michael, but for the most part the characters weren't very compelling this time around. The story is predictable and formulaic.
To all the Godfather III apologists: it offers almost no shred of anything that was good about the other two films. Its pathetically bad. Dialogue is horrid, actors are even worse. Everything feels forced. 1/5
If it had Winona Ryder in the role instead of Sofia Coppola, it would have been a MUCH better film overall. She gives one of the worst performances ever, and she has the face of a pancake house waitress, its no wonder Andy Garcia couldnt even pretend to find her desirable. Proof of how a single nepotismic mistake can bring down an entire operation. Coppola blew it.
I would've loved to see Ryder in that role, yet Sofia seems to make it convincing (just my opinion however). But don't blame the director; Winona would've done the role hadn't she had a mental breakdown at the time.
Nowhere near the level of the first two masterpieces, but also nowhere near the disaster that the general public claims it to be. There are some truly great moments here, they just don't happen with the regularity that they do in the previous two films in the trilogy. 4/5.
This coda to the Godfather saga features a fine performance by Andy Garcia as the menacing Vincent Mancini and little else.
Definitivno najlošiji od tri djela ... previše razvučen, malčice mlitav ... i ono na kraju kad mu ubiju ćeru -> totalno neuklopljeno i suvišno ...
Much stronger than it's reputation suggests. Just not very memorable. It is Pacino's movie and the script conspires to take it away from his character.
I liked it only because of the story which needed the end. But I must confess that this part's story is way to slow.
The ending is excellent, pure poetry, and the cinematography is quite luscious, it's the super stiff acting from pretty much everyone involved, and a needless incestuous subplot, that drags this below the first two.
This film is heavily critized! I think it's brilliant, plently of tributes to the previous entries in the series. The Godfather 3 is important to the seires, it is where we see Michael Corleone break down & look back on his life, at the regets he has and we see this powerful figure, begging for forgivness. Yes Sofia's acting is a let down, but that does not ruin the film. (she made up for that as a director herself.)
I agree in the fact that this film is under rated. it has to be considered as a Greek Tragedy, following a very determined scheme in the story (what can now be considered as old fashion and simplist). There was no future since the beginning of the first "episode".
This movie deserves a higher rating. It seems to me that people rate this movie considering it a whole film by itself. Consider that Ford Coppola said that The Godfather series consists of two films, while this one is the epilogue. I liked very much the film, although I didn't like Andy García's character Vincent.
I think the biggest problem with Part III, aside from Sophia which is just hard luck, it's not as much that she was bad, it's that the film was too big her for her, is that the first two are great, brilliant, masterpieces (choose your glowing praise). Part III is good, but it's not as good as what came before.
