Director

Original

Johnnie To

Following his directorial debut with the 1980 period martial arts fantasy The Enigmatic Case, To’s career came to something of an apex in the late 1980s thanks to such memorable action films as The Big Heat and tender, personal dramas like All About Ah-Long (the latter of which landed star Chow Yun-Fat a Best Actor award at the 1990 Hong Kong Film Awards). To be honest, this is not a great movie - but it's one of those flicks where the lighting, camera work, costumes, and attractive leading ladies make it an entertaining experience. If you love Hong Kong cinema, you basically have to see this at some point. Maggie Cheung's intro, in which she flies through the air on her motorbike, is impossibly sexy and cool. R.I.P. Anita Mui, who is greatly missed.

Great comic book fun and great casting. Anita Mui, Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung are the perfect trio of women to be brought onto this Charlie's Angels-like dark fantasy. Also, a fantastic dystopian look into Hong Kong's future.

Johnnie To viene solitamente, e giustamente, ricordato per altro. The Mission, A Hero Never Dies, PTU, Throw Down sono solo alcuni dei titoli con i quali si è guadagnato un bel gruppo di appassionati…  read review
