A wonderful introduction to the world of Ruiz. This isn’t so mauch an adpatation as it is an expansion of an idea buried within Pierre Klossowski’s nove;l “Le Baphomet.” Jean Rougeul, so unforgettable as Guido’s snarky script collaborator and critic in “8 1/2,” is the principla figure. He has literally all the lines.

On view in his screen debut is Jean Reno — playing one of his medieval ancestors.
