A man, whose body is almost completely covered in tattoos, is looking for the woman who drew all the intricate designs on him. Each tattoo hides a futuristic story, which you experience when you stare at it. —IMDb
Really a pretty strange film, though one of the better film adaptations of Ray Bradbury's work. It's greatest strength is how it evokes a palpable atmosphere of ambiguous dread, helped along by Rod Steiger at his very best and the always beautiful Claire Bloom, as well as a great Jerry Goldsmith score. Has its flaws, including being a bit dated and having a weak third story, but incredibly interesting.
Agree with everything you said. Despite its flaws, seeing this film as well as Farenheit 451 in my youth really directed me towards more "soft" sci-fi (books and film), which to me really opens up much more possibility to make sci-fi have a "palpable atmosphere of ambiguous dread". Plus, always love Steiger!!!
