I went in to this movie expecting the worse. But the casting was too attractive for me to pass it by, and I'm glad I didn't. I found it entertaining and Ledger, Garfield & Waits were great (I actually felt like Garfield's character was stunning in his simplicity that contrasted so much with the rest of the film). There were flaws (the CGI was over the top and the ending was to cute) but nevertheless it was enjoyable.
The only thing I took from this film is the knowledge that Lily Cole can't act. Gilliam is rapidily turning into a parody of himself.
As Terry Gilliam, I believe in the necessity to keep on telling tales even if the world forgets them and pays no attention, and he does it masterfully. Not disposable tales to entertain us, but those with deeper meanings which touch our imagination and senses.
Bel film, tanti spunti a volte si perdono fra immagini, colori, suoni e ti resta un certo senso di "mancata chiusura". Però una goduria per la mente! ;)
Not only did I find this a captivating and visually stunning film, I will forever find what Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell did for Heath Ledger's daughter absolutely beautiful and touching
Compared to his older works, this is not one of Gilliam's best. However, I still loved this film. It has vintage Gilliam moments, but I found it hard to watch the more cg elements of this film versus his green screen visuals from the past, which I believe is its only true shortcoming.
Gilliam's volcanic eccentricity is definetely not for all, but Imaginarium is far from formless. It offers a conceptually brilliant thesis heavily downplayed amidst the chaos.
Great movie about the age old war between God and the Devil. The state of being. God is schmuck loser, while the devil is triumphing. Human beings are just collateral damage in their silly game for "score". May seem like a naive analogy, but look around you. There are more bad people than good people. If you do good, you will fail. So is hell really that hot? Or it is just a misunderstood club?
