A socially ambitious mother (Julia Serda), learning that a baron is visiting her daughter (Colette Brettel) and son-in-law (Teddy Bill), hopes her youngest daughter, Sophie (Marlene Dietrich), can meet and, hopefully, marry the nobleman. The baron unexpectedly departs and the couple hires a street musician (Reinhold Schünzel) to replace him for the visiting family. The phony baron is exposed, however, after he proposes to Sophie.
