Nicholas Barclay was 13 years old when he disappeared from his San Antonio home in 1994. Three years later he was found in southern Spain and returned to his overjoyed parents. Yet how could they not notice their son’s change of hair and eye colour, or the fact he now spoke with a pronounced French accent? Truth is definitely stranger than fiction in this highly original and compelling documentary about con-artist Frédéric Bourdin and the Texan family who inexplicably welcomed him into their home. —edfilmfest.org.uk
