Synopsis

The current status quo in the Universe has been severely threatened as of lately by wicked Emperor Mingo. Jaime de Funes and Arancha will face up to the menace. The Emperor, the nasty Zoltar monster and the Mongolems intend to enslave the human race. However, in order to achieve their evil plans for universal dominion, they will have to overcome the only obstacle that hinders their path – the unrivalled private detective Jaime de Funes and his courageous assistant Arantxa Mirantes. Over and over again, both champions of justice will thwart Mingo’s plans to unleash chaos. Their courage and audacity are only matched by the absurdity of their methods.

Velasco Broca

The author of an unsettling work, Velasco Broca (born in Amurrio, in the Basque Country, in 1978) made his debut as a director with Footsie, a multi-awarded short that garnered him recognition in the Spanish underground scene. Having gained momentum, he undertook his second production – Kinky Hoodoo Voodoo –, filmed in 16 mm. This short already introduced some of his main obsessions, i.e., Spanish folklore, extraterrestrials and fetishism.

However, this work would remain unfinished until 2004, as Velasco Broca was to be commissioned with a teenager sexual education video. The outcome – Der Milchshorf – made a lasting impression in the national Spanish TV channel TVE program “Versión Española”, where it was broadcasted in 2002 under the heading of “the most bizarre short ever shown at the program”.

In 2007 his trilogy Echos der Buchrücken came to a close with Avant Pétalos Grillados. Barely three months after it earned him international recognition at the Slamdance Festival 2007, where it was bestowed with the Grand Jury Award for the Best Experimental Short; the short was also selected at the Cannes Director’s Fortnight, enjoying a warm welcome by the audience.

In addition to this, Velasco Broca has also made inroads into video-art, with his piece Permanence being selected for the Videodictionary international project organised by theVideoArtFoundation in collaboration with Caja Madrid. Permanence would feature at the Arco 2005 contemporary art fair in Madrid.

Currently, as part of his work with Cormac Regan at Regan & Velasco Inc., he combines his cinematographic work with the production of advertising spots for some of the most prominent Spanish agencies. He also finds the time to manage the electroacoustic music label Batan Bruits. —Reganvelasco.com
