a good movie to watch on a sunday afternoon. won't be surprised to see it airing on some kind of intellectual movie channel. this movie is not that shallow but it's not that heavy either. it's like a light sunday meal, if you want.
Astonishingly realistic portrayals of people who experience drama without histrionics - like actual mature people do. The story is in turn funny, sad, tense, poignant, and comforting. It's great to see a movie where the characters aren't caricatures and to see them embodied by such skillful and committed actors.
Nicely put together the film benefits from its ability to capture the small things well. The banter and snickering is represented realistically and the dynamic of the family is believable, however, there are slight central cliches that somewhat suggest that the central relationship is more gimmicky than a natural part of the storyline. Still, the performances are top-notch with Bening bringing a real gravitas.
Vampire Weekend. Co-op organic farms. Whining with wine. The Kids Are All White, amirite?
Desconcertante: unha peli sobre un matrimonio homosexual co obxetivo de propagar a moi conservadora idea de que: a familia debe facer o que quen trae cartos á casa diga. Pfffff!!
to me, it seemed that beyond those sometimes clever and/or apologetic speeches, they didn't learn anything.
Funny and interesting all along the way, but it loses the speed by the ending part.
A movie that sets characters in play mostly driven by dialogues, but dialogues are at the same time the weakest spot of the screenplay. What you get then are conversations based on take-away psychology, parenting books, self-help paperbacks. The end result is a hollow drama, an abstract representation that's not interesting to watch and not at all groundbreaking to think about.
it's a bit sad how their lifestyle looks like a lifestyle of some lame heterosexual couple's.this film 'normalises' the homosexual marriage.but isn't 'normal' a heteronormative concept? however,i don't think that this film is conservative at all, it's simply the reality.marriage sucks.commitment and monogamy are fine but it's also a dumb institution,a legal contract and it creates normative obligations.down-to-earth.
Didn't mind it. Had it's funny parts. Plot was predictable, but overall it was a decent flick.
Grande sceneggiatura, coinvolge dall'inizio alla fine, con grande naturalezza.
I loved Annette Bening's performance in this. The other performances were good also. But, besides that, I only like the first half or so of the movie.
love how vivid this movie was: California, the food! the daughter is delicious, ethereal and fair. excuse me, I have to go indulge in an avocado now.
