I am overwhelmed by this one every time. Cardinale's entrance is breath taking, and the entire ball scene i literally stunning.
an 8/10, my review: http://lasttimeisawdotcom.wordpress.com/2012/03/05/last-film-i-saw-the-leopard/
The restoration of The Leopard is jaw-dropping. Even if you don't care a whit about what's going on, it's incomparably beautiful to look at. Cinematographical porn.
Huge in scope and gorgeous beyond words in many spots. You could make the argument that this is Burt Lancaster's finest performance. Just a wonderfully epic film.

I have always loved Burt Lancaster and this film is a tour de force by Lancaster and a great motion picture by Visconti. The dinner scene, the ballroom scene are enthralling, the way the camera moves and the hum of conversation the very essense is captured by visconti and Lancaster's facial expressions is like reading a book. His very soul is exposed for the viewer to see and relish in his performance.
A majestic experience of stunning set detail and mise-en-scene, and at the core is a sensitive depiction of the aristocracy in waning power. Would love to see this on a big screen.
The entire last hour of this film is completely and utterly some of the most wonderful stuff I have ever seen in a film. I enjoyed the rest of it, yes, but that last hour... oh my gosh. Savvy
I watched this yesterday and was very impressed. Are there any other epic historical dramas of a similar style I should look out for?
Boring rich aristocrats complain about not being the center of attention anymore. Walking around. More complaining. Endless party where everyone gets bored stiff.
Decline before the fall. A grand opus in its own right – and it is a marvellously realised series of frescos – but also the start of Visconti’s own (elegant) slide into increasingly verbose and indulgent variations on the theme of grand, systemic rot. Never mind, savour the texture and detail of this beautifully modulated work which balances sweeping gesture with intimate, telling detail with confidence and assurance
Totally classy depiction of the fall of 1860s Sicilian aristocracy, with superb soundtrack by Nino Rota and elegant direction from Luchino Visconti, man i wish i had seen the 3 hours 15 minutes uncut version one...
Something like Perfection. There isn't a single shot that is wasted. By the way, the moment when Angelica enters the ballroom it feels like the world has just stopped.
Cinema doesn't get more elegant and classy than this. A beautifully crafted tribute to the dying breed of European aristocracy, this may be Visconti's masterpiece.
Sad and overwhelming grand epic. Superb Burt Lancaster. exquisite from the art department, to Visconti's elegant narration.
