The impossible and improbable are the least of Bill Murray's worries as he deals with a middle-age crisis of his own. Plus, as a Wes Anderson addict, I'm inclined to like it.
I am 96% sure that Wes Anderson's films have no point and mean absolutely nothing, but The Life Aquatic is a lot of fun nonetheless. On an unrelated note, Christopher Nolan should've cast Bill Murray as Batman.
I simply love this film, and any Wes Anderson films to be honest but this film remains my favorite of all time.
alongside Bottle Rocket and The Darjeeling Limited, my favourite of Anderson's films - and one of the very favourite films of a close friend. Like his best, it has simply everything I could wish for in a movie. Brilliant. Interestingly, my three favourite Owen Wilson roles match with my three favourite Anderson films - coincidence? :} (and I love Owen Wilson)
Rewatched and a solid 5 out of 5 yet again. I'd say one of the best roles I've seen Owen Wilson in so far and I'm still loving Bill Murray as always. Works well as both a comedy and a drama. Strangely still my favorite Wes Anderson movie but its also definitely one of his more easily accessible ones and maybe that's why.
yet another wes anderson masterpiece. easily his most godardian film with the stark colours, the superlative editing and some of the odd performance styles. bill murray has never been better, anjelica huston is aloof and cool. cate blanchett is utterly hilarious and touching in a role which is an utter parody. can any director do hilarity with a touching underbelly better? modern cinema at it's very best.
Maybe Wes Anerson's funniest movie, but also the most meanspirited and unsympathetic. Watching his other films, I feel like I'm laughing with his characters. In this one, I feel like I'm laughing at them (and at a disabled dog and gay people). This kind of disappointed me...It seemed very unWes Andersonish...
Kudos for the stop-motion. It's a nice film with an appealing style and a sarcastic tribute to Jacques Cousteau. There's a lot of people playing their usual roles (just like the fish in the sea - instant rimshot) and then there's that 'Murray look' in "Broken Flowers" - that's how I was after this one... apathetic.
Muito bom. E o Seu Jorge ajuda. (: "Don't point that gun at him, he's an unpaid intern"
"I'm sorry I never acknowledged your existence all those years. It won't happen again."
I couldn't really appreciate this movie the first time I saw it, seven years ago. I really love it now. The surrealist and imaginative mind of Anderson has no equal. Great cast and music. And the brazilian guy singing...priceless.
Wes Anderson always makes movies about characters trying to come to terms with themselves. This is the ultimate expression that idea. Quirky as always but so much more. The shark scene at the end makes me cry.
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is the kind of movie that gets better with each viewing. The direction and cinematography are great and the acting and music are superb. What really stuck out the last time I saw this movie was the writing, specifically the dialogue. Between that and Bill Murray's performance, you really can't go wrong with this movie...
Anderson chopped off Cody's leg to cast this toot, and despite all his stolen possessions, all was rearranged in maquette order, that inactive aquarium some of us had that used distilled water. His decor and dialogue has that perfect taste of the jug and plastic opaque, the glass case and submarine life you want to recreate yourself without the serious elements you embue from your recovered inheritance.
The emotion of the film feels both abstract and immediate, directly filtered through the meticulous mise-en-scène and the casts' minimalist performances, creating a unique and deepy melancholy cinematic experience. One of Anderson's two masterpieces (the other being The Darjeeling Limited).
