It's an improvement on "Two Towers" in the sense that the awkward comedy has been left behind. But when I watch this movie, I can't help but feel like the last 20-30 minutes are a perfunctory series of "Well, we've got to have this scene and this scene, etc." It gets from Point A to Point B and so on, but not in a manner I find particularly inspiring. Still, the trilogy was a monumental achievement.
There is nothing to hate about the third and final entry, I was so enthralled by what I was watching that I didn't even notice the length of time the film is. Jackson's attention to detial, the cinematography (as always) and the score make the film. You can tell this film was a labour of love for Peter Jackson and the cast too, it shows on screen.
awesome last fight... & i really hate Frodo - aaand finally... a very awesome fantasy story, great pictures & perfect ambiente..!
Jackson's epic bringing of the lord of the rings comes to a fully satisfying conclusion. Equally majestic and heartfelt completely in the spirit of the novels. A labour of love for all involved that surely shows in every frame. The film dominated the oscars that year but really it was the trilogy being awarded. Great to be able to watch all the cuts concurrently. Remember the year between each was agony to wait.
The theatrical cut was too long as it is, I'm not even going to attempt to watch the extended cut. There was no need for half of the scenes at the end. I think I left my seat in the theatre thinking it was over at least four times before the credits rolled.
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Just a perfect movie for a perfect trilogy. Its the best of the three even though in my mind they are really one film and should be seen back to back. I couldn't ask for more in a film. Just incredible.
The film that most butchered Tolkien, and yet, the ending is absolutely perfect. Bring on the denouments; this is truly The End.
As a film trilogy, I could not ask for more, but as a reader of the books, I would have liked to see the scouring of the Shire, instead of Saruman dying at Orthanc. But that's just the LotR geek in me...
The final installment is one of those movies that has one of the best damn visuals ever done. Aside from those, it's pretty emotional, what with it being the final installment.
