I think as a milestone in the history of cinema this is a very important film.
Just think of all the post war and modern films that use animation or models that dwarf the human characters on screen, well this film is one of the films that started all that. The models look not very good at all for modern standards, but if we think that this film was made 15 years after the great war, and then put the film in that context, I believe it is a stunning achievement.
If we take out the equation the significance of this film in the history of cinema I think as a feature length film I’d give this 3 stars, personally I enjoyed the the start and the end most of all, the parts in london that is. I loved the expressions on all mass of characters faces, and I felt more engaged in those sequences, as in the scenes in the amazon the characters seemed to play second fiddle to the dinosaurs. But overall it is an enjoyable film which holds together, which must have been a wonder to watch at the time with live piano and orchestra (the soundtrack is wonderful).
Well worth a watch.
