A story about Jim Craig and 18 year old who has recently lost his father in trying to capture ‘the colt from Old Regret’ has to win the respect from the men of the high country to run his fathers farm located near Mt. Kosciusko. After his father’s death he is forced to work on the low lands for Harrison whose brother is good friends of Jims. While working on the farm Jim falls in love with Harrison’s daughter Jessica. Scottish-born film director George T. Miller has spent much of his career characterized as “the other George Miller.” This is because Miller, a veteran of Australian television, did not make his first theatrical feature until 1982 — three years after the release of Mad Max, which was the inaugural effort of another Aussie-based director named George Miller. Miller attempted for a while to differentiate himself by including the middle initial “T” in his billing. The success of his first film The Man from Snowy River (1982) stirred up so much publicity over the fact that Australia boasted two talented George Millers that Miller decided to allow the “confusion” to stand, figuring that his true fans would be able to separate the two Georges. Holds a special place for me, for alongside a handful of other films this very early on helped form my love for movies. As a young boy I must have watched it 200 times. Now I'm much older and many years have passed between viewings, yet I still find myself able to quote just about the entire thing. With a few select other movies, this film is able to evoke memories from a very specific time in my life.
