Great job by Harrelson. And that's about it. It was a bit on the boring side.

For the actors: Foster and Harrelson as members of the “Angels of Death Squadron” (i.e. Casualty Notification Officers who break the sad news to the families of the soldiers recently killed in action), and Samantha Morton as one of the widows Foster visits (and — surprise surprise — falls for).

Glad to see this is FINALLY getting a UK release this May. Honestly though, distribution where I live sucks.

I'm surprised by how much I liked this. I cried during Steve's cameo. Because it's Steve.

This film was very moving, Ben Foster should've been nominated as Best Actor for his performance. I hadn't realize what a great actor he is until I saw this film. Great direction as well from Oren.

Without firing a single bullet or be shown horrific scenes of the battlefield, The Messenger shows the pain that comes with war through the eyes of those that stay behind... Credit to the cast that deliver a subtle but yet emotionally rich performances.

This sure isn't an easy film to watch, but a great story beautifully told. Foster proves 3:10 To Yuma wasn't a fluke.

Excellent writing, solid direction and editing and a great cast round out a very touching film, about a topic that is rarely touched on. A great experience.

In the army you are train to kill, not to tell the next of kin that their loved ones have been killed... how are you going to deal with that sergeant ?. Amazing performances, raw feelings and a bit of comedy. highly recommended.

This is a powerful and touching film,we can feel the pain about the emotionally painful job..Although the news remains the same, emotions run just as deep at each door..it's hard not to feel emotionally affected

Manages the task of being emotionally exhausting without being melodramatic.

Upon second viewing I think I may suggest this is the best iraq war movie, better than The Hurt Locker. Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson are remarkable in this.

IIt may not have taken place in country, but this was the best Iraq movie of 2009. http://eddieonfilm.blogspot.com/2010/05/terrible-but-necessary-job.html

Great movie about the devastating consequences of war on the uman spirit, with two fantastic performances by Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster. And a great cameo by Steve Buscemi, too.

In my opinion, much like The Hurt Locker, this film goes beyond any war film that I've seen recently. There's something very personal and human about this film, most likely stemming from the highly vulnerable way that they present their characters, which I respect greatly and which transcends it beyond the title of a "war film." One of the best of '09.

Brillante manejo del duelo y las reacciones emocionales de familiares (fueron realmente autenticas). Explota un tema diferente sobre la guerra. Ben Foster es el standout de la cinta. El guion a veces es medio predecible.

Really good movie, but it may be hard to watch some times. Harrelson is superb in it. Both this and The Hurt Locker are not exactly a new take on war movies, but they help us get the bigger picture of it.

Eh, the only reason anyone should ever see this one is for Buscemi's cameo

Great idea for a film! Lots of scenes are not convincing, lots of lines are shallow talk. I didn't buy the relationship between the widow and the surgeon. In reality, army will call the segean to the Court Marshall. Should have been done with less worry for marketing. Not very honest.
