I think this movie is a great set of beautiful images without any sense of cohesion. The script does not lead anywhere, and I'm not saying that it has no apparent message, because many great films do not transmit any messages. The problem is that, after enduring a main character that looks retarded for over an hour, all her adventures and sufferings do not matter at all.
I really don't know what to think of Llosa's intentions here, was she trying to make a serious portrait of her country or what?, because the movie itself borders on art-house camp most of the time without anything of value in its mind other than exploiting the hypocrisies of the audience. Still, I'm not saying this is a bad movie, it's just a very disquieting one.
Irresponsible and shallow. The film is condescending of the customs of people who were once my neighbors. I sat through it, but it all became especially inexcusable when I considered that Satyajit Ray made films that were faithful to his people without having to descend to arthouse theatrics that have been exhausted to all hell.
A pesar de huecos graves en el film la actuación de Magaly Solier y el gran folklor peruano hace de esta una grata pelicula, fácil de seguir y de reviusión necesaria
Magaly Solier should act in everything all the time.
Peruvian cinema is a lot of things, just as Peruvian history is a lot of things. I see no reason that terrorism that has shaped the country in various ones shouldn't be portrayed because it now may be "en vouge" for European poverty fetishes.
It's just an OK film. But I couldn't take my eyes from Magaly Solier's beauty.
amazing performance from Magaly Solier
this is what is going to sell. There you go, post-terrorism and "poor south american living" for european dummies. This is painful to watch. If this is "peruvian cinema" I'd rather be a foreigner.
Such an amzing, heart-felt debut, a film that not only explores the horrors of terrorism not only upon women, but upon the soul of a country that has to carry on with their lives, even if the wounds might be hard to heal...
I had wanted to go this film at İstanbul Film Festival last year but i missed the time. I wasn't worried about ticket but i'm still wondering on it.
muy buena peli...aunque después leí que los aborigenes peruanos se sintieron ofendidos...:S
Not for everyone, this is a slow burning movie that might alienate most people. It is a poetic view on a somewhat bizarre story, it almost feels like a light movie on a big-heavy subject. It could've been a disaster (and I'm pretty sure most people will think it is), but it's direction and editing are great, as are all the leading actors.
Here feel a hard atmosphere of sad and silence.
This is a very nice film.
My guilty pleasure film from this year!
