Though it's aware of the fact that it isn't as manic as the television series ("Is this how the Muppets really got started?" "Well, it's sort of approximately how it happened"), it's a welcoming first affair for Henson into feature films, featuring fun musical sequences and deceivingly simple looking technological innovations, one of which, which shocked everyone at the time, was a puppet on a bike.
