A country boy in search of his provincial love in the sprawling metropolis. Romantic but not naive, this is probably one of my sentimental favourites!

The film does a good job at bringing social issues in The Philippines to our attention but in successfully doing so, it harms the film as a piece of art. Plots are contrived to bring up different issues or to provoke an emotional response. Characters are introduced simply for them to be killed off and serve no other purpose but the tragedy of their death. etc. Even so, it was powerful and engaging at times. 3*

The best Filipino film that depicts realism of simple happiness and disastrous pain and exploitation. Remarkably done by Lino Brocka and collaboration with Mike De Leon. Magnificent! Must-see, what else I can say, I watched over a hundred times and still, I still get new things from it and it never failed to take my breathe away.
