Personally I don’t care for the arrogant practice of “Man” imposing his spiritual beliefs on his fellow “Man”, when there is obviously no right or wrong answer about God (in spite of the equally arrogant beliefs of atheists).
Gibson’s film is the absolute embodiment of this hypocrisy! There is no investigation of Jesus’ life or teachings at all, so this story is not about the man/half-God himself, but simply about his brutal death. I took from this film that the abuse and destruction of the “King of the Jews” is far more important than his life. With the violence turned up to 11, I suppose this is some kind of call to arms for “believers” to not let the Christ die in vane! If this was a Muslim piece it would be dismissed as a Taliban recruitment film titled, “Kill the infidel”.
I can’t take this film seriously since it is not just Gibson’s opinion of “what might have been”, but instead, it is Sergeant Riggs’ attempt to channel God Himself! But if God really was in the writer credits, I think the film would have been a lot more balanced and unassuming, instead of the angry, gory Jesus-porn that it is.
