But also for it's great acting, the way it's story is told, the story ,the characters...so yeah pretty much everything.
"Is that what we are, misanthropes?" "Good Lord no, we're a family." This movie is haunting in the best of ways. Love it, love all of it.
I dont even know what to say about this movie... Stunning screenplay from nick cave, the soundtrack is amazing, Guy Pierce has a scary good performance, the Australian landscape is drop dead beautiful and John Hillcoat manages to surprise me yet again with another masterpiece.
Forfeiting the American frontier for the Australian outback this is honestly one of the greatest Westerns ever made. Lyrical and brutal, it takes its cues from the likes of Peckinpah, Leone, Roeg and even Jarmusch. A powerful slice of cinema depicting civilisation's advance into the wild and the violent and somewhat foolish struggle to suppress man's primal instincts with refined customs and conventions.
A perfect little poem of a movie that focuses on character and saying as much with as little. The details and feeling are intoxicating, the violence an unexpected jolt. All actors and actresses involved hit great stride.
Bloody brilliant neo-noir kangaroo western, that just happens to have three of the best performances ever. Guy Pearce is the laconic antihero out to save his family, whilst Ray Winstone is the policeman trying to do the right thing, and Danny Huston is Pearce's brother. All three are great, in performances that were snubbed by the Oscars. But Nick Cave's screenplay as well, and the cinematography.
If for nothing else this movie deserves a solid 5 for its cinematography and its soundtrack.
But also for it's great acting, the way it's story is told, the story ,the characters...so yeah pretty much everything.
When?" Said the moon to the stars in the sky. "Soon" Said the wind that followed him home. "Who?" Said the cloud that started the cry. "Me" Said the rider, dry as a bone.
Fantastic performances, a taut storyline, gloriously violent, and it has a heart... unlike The Road. A great example of a modern western.
Simply amazing. A brilliant script, clever and decisive direction, and there is no beating the all-star cast with stellar performances by Ray Winstone, Guy Pierce, John Hurt and Emily Watson. John Hurt's performance is akin to Dennis Hopper in True Romance. Winstone's gravel voice and devilish charm scores to the belly. And how can you beat Hillcoat at the helm with a script by Nick Cave? Dunno.
this was a really good film i think its one of my top movies now. the composition was amazing and every shot felt like i was looking at a wonderful photo.
Visually Striking and well balanced, Director John Hillcoat & Benoît Delhomme paint a heartbreakingly beautiful picture of the Australian outback in the late 19th Century.
I saw this movie last night. It was shot and lit beautifully! Bravo Benoit Delhomme you are one hell-of-a DP.
Nick Cave confirms his genius, now with a magnificent screenplay and a flawless soundtrack. A modern masterpiece from John Hillcoat.
In my top 20 of all time, without question. Dear Nick Cave, can you do any wrong? I think no.
Flies everywhere. Sweaty, stained clothes & matted hair. Yellow teeth. Brutal murders. Tough talking lawmen and outlaws. This is hands down, the best western of the 00's. Wonderful cinematography, art direction is spot on, a quotable script and an intriguing story. If you like westerns, do yourself a favor - go see this TODAY, you won't be disappointed.
