Great adapatation of the novel. Brendan Fraser is really good in his role of Pyle, and I thought the translation from the book of this character was very strong, although it must be one of the only movies I’ve actually read the book of. Don’t think it ever hams itself up because when the film creschendo’s the reality settles in and even though it’s all set in the past it doesn’t let you forget the atrocities of war, hence the love story running parallel. Happy ending!
