Merely because a demographic picks up something they like from a movie does not reduce it to peddling. Yeah, I'm tired of hipsters too, but we all are. The movie stands alone, except maybe next to Anderson's other films.
brother & sister? weird, right? but, fuck it - anyone who DOESNT want gwyneth paltrow in this film is outta their fucking mind. movie-wise - script? soundtrack? cast? directing? EVERYTHING about this movie is perfect. also, the back-and-forth between the wilson brothers in the owen-wilson-drug-addict-admission part is hilarious. i often say both parts to myself.
The criticism of Anderson's films as quirky bothers me. While this isn't my favorite of his, it eludes that criticism the most since most of the alleged quirks are here actually the character's methods of escaping from harsh realities, enclosing themselves in there own world. What most criticism misses is that those harsh realities are really inescapable And the high points of the film is where fantasy falls through
I stand by my claim that this is the best movie released between 2000 and 2009. Masterpiece. In my top ten.
Really enjoyed this film. Read some reviews that criticised the acting as being emotionless but ugh that's the point? They're all suffering from a variety of mental health issues including depression. I thought it was a brilliant portrayal of depression. Really like the eccentricities, the voice over and the cinematography in general.
A very sweet and very funny movie filled with lovable, eccentric characters. What makes it so delightful to watch is how Wes Anderson builds the plot around the characters, rather than the other way around. As they develop, so does the plot.
Great film. The entire cast was playing completely different parts from what they usually play. The story was brilliant and the humor was so dry you couldn't help but laugh. Along with a great soundtrack including Bob Dylan, The Clash, Vince Guiraldi, John Lennon and others, it was altogether awesome.
